Located on both banks of the Zumbro River, it is perhaps best known as the home of Mayo Clinic. Rochester has an engaging pedestrian framework as a system of sidewalks, skywalks and “subwalks” meander above, below and throughout the city center. This presents a challenge as wayfarers must be provided cues regarding their location on three different vertical levels, as well as on the typical horizontal grid.
